DR ANDREW ABEYSINGHE
about Andrew
Andrew was born in London, but migrated to Melbourne in his infant years. He graduated from The School of Dental Science at Melbourne University in 2008 and during his five years of clinical practice there, he provided dental services for patients at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and various community clinics in Melbourne, Shepparton and Darwin.
Andrew has been part of the Hastings Family Dental Care team since February 2009 and became the Principal Dentist in May 2015. He is a firm believer in preventative and conservative dentistry. He also enjoys aesthetic dentistry, with a special interest in restoring smiles and veneering.
In his spare time, Andrew is a keen sportsman especially with cricket, golf and AFL, and is a diehard West Coast fan.
DR TOM FEEHELY
about Tom
Tom was born and raised in Cork, Ireland. He gained his BDS from the University College Cork in 1990. Having worked in the UK for a couple of years, Tom migrated to Australia in the early 90’s. Having worked in northern NSW and country Victoria Tom settled on the Mornington Peninsula and he bought his first practice in Blairgowrie. Tom gained his graduate certificate in dentistry from the University of Adelaide in 2001.
Seeking new pastures, Tom sold his practice and with his family moved back to Ireland in 2002. They returned in 2005. Tom obtained his Fellowship from the International College of Continuing Dental Education in May 2009. He is passionate about all aspects of dentistry and embraces new ideas and technology.
Tom has four young kids and they enjoy spending time at the local footy club and fishing.
DR JAMES FERNANDO
about James
James was born in Melbourne and studied at the University of Melbourne. He graduated with Honours and was awarded the Mervyn Townsend Prize for Orthodontics.
Before joining the practice, James provided dental treatment at the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne and at various community health centres across Victoria. He joined Hastings Family Dental Care in February 2010.
James has visited Cambodia twice as a volunteer providing dental treatment for disadvantaged children. He and his nurse Liz were granted this opportunity through the M’Lop Tapang organisation and found it to be a most rewarding experience. Toothbrushes and toothpastes were generously donated for the Cambodian children from a local school near Hastings Family Dental Care.
James has experience in all fields of dentistry, with a special interest in preventive dentistry. When he’s not in the surgery, he enjoys playing the guitar and is a keen soccer fan.
James is currently completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne that focuses on tooth remineralisation and the prevention of tooth decay. Due to his study commitments he is working one day a week though very much enjoys being part of the Hastings Family Dental Care team.
DR DEEP PATEL
about Deep
Deep has completed his secondary and tertiary education in Melbourne. He obtained a Biomedical Science Scholars degree from Monash University and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Melbourne. During his degree, he was awarded multiple awards including Edward Brooke Nicholls Prize for Anatomy, The William Leslie Elvins Prize for Oral Surgery, Mervyn Townsend Memorial Prize in Orthodontics and Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia Dental Graduate Award of Excellence.
Deep has gained experience at various metropolitan and rural community clinics, private clinics and hospitals across Victoria. In 2019, Dr Deep volunteered for a dental outreach to Nepal, providing dental care for a disadvantaged rural community outside Kathmandu.
Deep is passionate about providing comprehensive dental care and enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. He has a gentle and caring approach and he believes in offering patients a tailored treatment plan while educating and empowering them to achieve their oral health goals. Deep is continuously learning to stay up to date with the latest technology and best dental practices.
Outside of work, Deep is often found spending time in nature (hiking or stargazing) and playing table tennis or cricket.
Dr Deep is fluent in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
